MuckRock maintains a suite of tools and services designed to support transparency, journalism and civic participation. Your MuckRock account is your passport to the services that MuckRock maintains and to a handful of services provided by our partners. You can see the most complete list of tools you can access with a MuckRock account when signing in or from your account page.
You can create an single-user account for free and begin using MuckRock right away, but you may also want to set up or join an organization so you can collaborate with colleagues and share resources.
MuckRock also verifies newsrooms, research organizations and independent journalist on our Accounts system. Some functionality is only available to verified organizations — you can learn more about verification and find instructions for how to apply in our verification guide.
And if you’d like to use MuckRock Accounts to make a tool or resource available to verified newsrooms, you can reach out to [email protected] with a description of your project.
Before you can access open invitations or begin using two-factor authentication, we need to confirm that we have the correct email address on file.
If you have been using MuckRock’s services for some time without a confirmed email address, you may be surprised that we’re asking you to confirm it now — in 2025 we’re rolling out some updates to our tools and some long time users will need to confirm or re-confirm their email addresses.
Two-factor authentication, often abbreviated as 2FA, strengthens your login by requiring a second piece of information (or “factor”) to log in, in addition to your password. We strongly encourage MuckRock users adopt two-factor authentication to protect any sensitive data that may be stored on your accounts. We recommend these two excellent fact sheets for more information on two-factor authentication and why it is important:
