Getting started with Klaxon Cloud

The browser extension lets you create, view and edit alerts for a single website as you browse the web. The extension is available for Chrome and Firefox. (The Chrome version will also work with MS Edge.)

The companion website at klaxoncloud.org ****lets you view the entirety of your alerts and activity history.

Sign into both the browser extension and the website using your MuckRock account. After signing in, you’ll see a list of any recently observed changes for your alerts:

• In the browser extension, you’ll just see alerts you’ve created for the website you’re currently viewing.
• On the companion website, you’ll see alerts across all websites you’re watching.

Alerts

Alerts watch a single URL for changes. Alerts can watch the entire page, or just a selection within it. The only way to create an alert is through the browser extension.

Creating an alert

When visiting a page you’d like to watch, find Klaxon Cloud among your browser’s extensions, and click to open it. Klaxon Cloud will open in a sidebar alongside the page you’re viewing.

From the sidebar, click Create a new alert to proceed.

You can try out Klaxon and start creating an alert without signing in or creating an account. You’ll be asked to sign in or create an account before saving it.

Select a part of the page

By default, Klaxon will watch the whole page for changes. As your mouse hovers over the page, you’ll see potential selections highlight. Click, tap or drag to make a selection. After making a selection, you may widen or narrow it using the slider that appears over the page.
